  • How often will I receive books?

Approximately every 6-8 weeks is the standard. Shipping cycles can be adjusted to suit, anywhere from every three weeks to once every 26 weeks (6 months). Contact us to request a schedule that suits you.

  • What is the price of books sent to subscribers?

The current subscription rate for each series book shipped automatically is $28.95 + $4.95 shipping (U.S. only), regardless of title or retail price. Subscribers can purchase books in addition to their automatic shipments at the same price, but with free standard shipping. (Orders of $40 or more qualify for a free upgrade to UPS or Priority Mail.) We often feature subscriber-only specials that are priced even lower. Discount coupons offered to the general public may be used by subscribers. Use the special subscriber-only form at the Customer Service Center to place an order.

  • May I temporarily suspend my subscription?

Yes. Simply let us know when you would like to stop receiving shipments. You can tell us at that time when you would like to resume, or you can wait to contact us when you're ready to begin receiving books again.

  • Must I keep every volume?

No. You are not obligated to keep any title, including the first, introductory shipment. If you return the first shipment, however, we assume you do not wish to remain in the program and we discontinue your subscription. After the first shipment, you may return any book within 30 days of receipt, for any reason, and stay in the program.

  • How do I return Library of America books?

If the package has not been opened, simply mark the carton "Return to Sender." Return postage is guaranteed and will be paid by Library of America. If the original package has been opened, repack the book and mail it back to us. You may request a prepaid return label from Customer Service by phone or email, or you may add the necessary postage.

Our mailing address for returns: Library of America 1550 E Washington Avenue, Suite 1 Des Moines, IA 50340

  • Can I pick the volumes I will receive?

Yes, we will send you a list of the available books with your first volume, and you can mark the ones you do not want to review as part of your subscription. Only the books you have selected will be sent to you, in a sequence determined by overall popularity and current availability. Also, if there are volume(s) you do not want to wait to receive as part of your subscription, you may order them at your discounted subscription rate at any time.

  • How is the order of books chosen by Library of America?

At first subscribers will receive some of the most popular books from our list and then a combination of recently published titles and older titles to fill in their collections.

  • How many titles are there in The Library of America series?

There are currently over 325 volumes in print to date, and approximately 10-15 new titles added every year.

  • How may I pay for my subscription?

You will be sent an invoice with each shipment for payment by check or money order. Cash cannot be accepted. If you prefer, we can bill your credit card (Visa, MasterCard, and American Express) on an automatic, prepaid basis. In that case, the statement that accompanies the shipment will serve as the credit card receipt, and will reflect a "zero due" balance.

  • How often will I receive books?

  • May I purchase additional or earlier books?

Yes. You may order any of the titles from the series at the subscription rate for yourself or for gifts at any time by writing or calling our Customer Service Center. We also offer special savings to subscribers periodically throughout the year, giving them the opportunity to select from a complete list of titles any book they would like for immediate shipment.

  • May I pay for individual volumes with my credit card without having it billed automatically for subsequent shipments?

Yes. You must, however, clearly indicate that the charge is for that single payment only. Otherwise, your account will be converted to automatic charges. The exception is for single-purchase or load-up mailings, for which your choice of the credit card payment option will not cause conversion of the account. Credit card information cannot be retained on file as part of your record for single-time uses. The credit card information will be required anew each time.

  • Can I cancel my account at any time?

Yes. You are under no obligation to buy a set number of volumes. Simply inform Customer Service in writing or by telephone. Please be aware that shipments may already be on their way to you. If so, you need only mark them “return to sender.”
