In what’s fast becoming a late-summer tradition, Library of America made a second appearance at the Brooklyn Book Festival on Sunday. From our commanding corner position in Booth 628, we greeted a steady flow of interested visitors, spread the word about our nonprofit mission, and (for the first time at the Festival) sold a substantial number of titles from our list.

As it did last year, the 2018 Festival provided a welcome opportunity for us to meet with our loyal readers while cultivating new ones—and to see how both groups respond to some of our latest projects. The Future is Female! 25 Classic Science Fiction Stories by Women, from Pulp Pioneers to Ursula K. Le Guin was the standout attraction among our Fall 2018 titles, with readers of all ages responding enthusastically to the concept and cover design. Our two-volume boxed set Madeleine L’Engle: The Kairos Novels also garnered quite a bit of attention ahead of its official publication date.

In the you-never-know-who-you-might-meet category, LOA enjoyed a visit early in the day from His Excellency Teodoro L. Locsin, Jr., Philippine ambassador to the United Nations (photo below). Locsin expressed admiration for LOA’s goals and its books, and returned a couple of hours later to purchase a copy of our boxed set The Debate on the Constitution.
